RESEARCH INTERESTS

Shoshana has always been interested in approaching big, important questions by examining them on a small, molecular scale. She is eager to use synthetic chemistry to develop new polymeric materials that will enhance drug delivery and improve the efficacy of treatments. She is particularly interested in exploring hydrogels for vaccine delivery.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Department of Chemistry, Barnard College,  Jan 2017 – Aug 2020
Research Advisor: Prof. Rachel Austin
Shoshana worked as a Beckman Scholar in the Austin lab and ultimately completed her undergraduate thesis exploring the structure and function of the alkane monooxygenase protein AlkB.

Amgen Scholar, Department of Developmental Biology, Washington University in St. Louis, May 2018 – Aug 2018
Research Advisor: Prof. Kerry Kornfield
Shoshana investigated a novel genetic pathway implicated in aging using the model organismC. elegans.

ABOUT

Shoshana is originally from St. Louis, MO, where she fell in love with science at the age of 7 after watching her father crystallize sugar from a supersaturated solution. In college, she minored in religion while majoring in chemistry. She is passionate about making the world a better place, both through scientific discovery and civic engagement. In her free time, she enjoys reading mystery novels and going on hikes around the Bay Area.
