RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Department of Materials Science, ETH Zurich, Feb 2017 - Sept 2017
Research Advisor: Prof. Andre Studart
Vittoria worked on the creation of monodisperse capsules and foams formed of bacterial cellulose. In order to achieve the required monodispersity, a templating structure produced via step emulsification was used. These novel materials could find use in drug delivery applications and in tissue engineering.

School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, Harvard University, Sept 2017 - Aug 2018
Research Advisor: Prof. Joanna Aizenberg
Vittoria developed novel macroscopic photonic structures using colloidal templating droplets. She developed structures in different materials, characterized them, studied the evaporation kinetics and tested their catalytic activity.

Department of Materials Science, ETH Zurich, Sept 2018 - Feb 2020
Research Advisor: Prof. Andre Studart
Working in a startup on microfluidics, spinning-off from the lab of Prof. Studart, Vittoria and the rest of the team managed to upscale the monodisperse production of droplets up to 5kg/h. For the first time, microfluidics with Swiss precision can be delivered to the industrial market.

ABOUT

Vittoria was born and raised in Milan, Italy, but since she was a little kid, studied at the German school in Milan. Growing up learning German, she decided to move to Switzerland, where she pursued her undergraduate studies in Interdisciplinary Sciences at ETH Zurich. Though, it was not until she moved to Harvard University that she understood what a really cold winter felt like. In Boston, she got to know American culture, managed to travel a bit, and spent a lot of time playing tennis on one of the college teams. After her time in Boston, she went back to ETH to start her MSc and has now decided to explore sunny California. In her free time, you can find her enjoying the nice weather, playing tennis in the sun, or exploring new areas of California. She also really likes cooking Italian dishes and do any kind of sports, including skiing and scuba diving.
